Snake Eyes came out swinging — loud, cheeky, and way too fun to be “just” the opener for Dinosaur Pile-Up. Cassiopeia, with its low ceilings and grit under the fingernails, suited their rough-edged indie charm perfectly. By the first chorus, they’d already claimed the stage as their own.
And then there was me… doing whatever the hell that was with a flash. I’ve been shooting shows for years, but because Snake Eyes’ photographer Lee uses flash so well (and I always wanted to give it a try), I thought: why not tonight? They said yes. And my confidence said goodbye. Every burst of light was a gamble, and every photo felt wrong — not “creative wrong”, but "what-the-hell-am-I-doing wrong". My brain was a malfunctioning settings roulette wheel: ISO? Shutter? Flash intensity? The photos did not look like the vision in my head — more like birthday-party-in-a-basement chaos.
But the one upside of panicking: I shot way less than usual. Editing later was its own little meltdown because none of my presets and go to settings worked. Everything was too bright, too raw… too honest. But in the end I am actually happy with the photos, who would've thought that? Definitely not me.
And honestly, I feel like the photos match Snake Eyes pretty perfectly. Imperfect, messy, loud, and absolutely alive. So no, the photos didn’t turn out how I imagined —but the night? The night ruled, and it was an absolute joy to see Snake Eyes in Berlin.
