As November’s chill sweeps through Gothenburg, the city’s vibrant indie music scene roars to life with Viva Sounds, a festival like no other. Nestled in the heart of Sweden’s music capital, Viva Sounds transforms 15 intimate venues into a sprawling stage for 70 electrifying artists from around the globe. From gritty punk to genre-bending experimental sounds, it’s a weekend packed with 100 shows, all within walking distance of each other.


But this isn’t just about the music—it’s a hub for indie professionals and enthusiasts alike. Produced by the ever-collaborative Westside Music Sweden, Viva Sounds marries the energy of a club festival with the connections of an intimate music conference. It’s a space where indie artists, fans, and industry movers unite to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and, let’s be honest, a bit of ruckus.


With so much to explore, we’ve put together our top picks for the weekend—acts you simply can’t miss at this year’s Viva Sounds. Let’s dive in!



THURSDAY

A sonic explorer blending soulful vocals with lush, atmospheric soundscapes, Adjua delivers performances that are as intimate as they are powerful. Her music weaves stories of resilience and vulnerability, setting the perfect tone for Viva Sounds' opening night. She's also playing on Friday, if you can't make it on Thursday.




Rising Canadian artist Aysanabee crafts poignant, deeply personal folk melodies inspired by his Indigenous heritage. Aysanabee’s ability to marry haunting lyricism with heart-stirring instrumentals is sure to leave a lasting impression. He's also playing on Friday, if you can't make it on Thursday.




Named after the iconic author, Mary Shelley’s sound is equally evocative—melding dark, post-punk vibes with a touch of synth-heavy dreaminess. Expect brooding melodies and an irresistible edge. They are also playing on Friday and Saturday, if you can't make it on Thursday.




FRIDAY

Local favorites Beverly Kills are a Gothenburg treasure. Their shimmering indie-pop anthems and soaring choruses will have the crowd singing along from the first note. This is a hometown gig you won’t want to miss.




Cape Town-born Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys brings her signature "dream noise" to the stage, crafting mesmerizing performances with hushed vocals and atmospheric soundscapes. Her music is as haunting as it is enchanting.




Belgium’s Lézard blends the eclectic spirit of David Byrne with the raw energy of 80s post-punk. Fronted by Neil Claes, their multi-layered, danceable sound draws from XTC, Talking Heads, and modern post-punk, creating an electrifying live experience complemented by visually stunning projections.




Emerging as one of the most exciting acts on the Belgium indie scene, Iskander Moon combines heartfelt songwriting with polished, melodic production. Don’t miss his Friday performance for a dose of pure indie magic. He's also playing on Saturday, if you can't make it on Friday.




With their gritty garage-rock sound and raucous stage presence, The Family Men know how to get a crowd moving. Prepare for a raw, high-energy performance that will stick with you long after the final chord.

SATURDAY

Belgian indie-folk quartet Bluai enchants audiences with their warm harmonies and dreamy storytelling. Bluai’s delicate yet dynamic sound is perfect for easing into the festival’s final evening.




Hailing from the UK, Eighty Eight Miles blends vibrant indie pop/rock with influences from Fleetwood Mac to Blossoms. Their dynamic sound and infectious energy are not to be missed.
