Berlin may still be shaking off the last chill of winter, but The Buoys brought a full dose of Australian sunshine to Lark on March 3rd, 2025, for their first-ever show in the city—and the final stop of their European tour. The Sydney-based four-piece radiated the kind of energy that makes a gig unforgettable: electrifying, joyous, and utterly infectious.
The Buoys, consisting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Zoe Catterall, bassist Courtney Cunningham, guitarist Hilary Geddes, and drummer Tess Wilkin, have been making waves in the indie and alt-rock scene since their formation in 2016. Their music blends punchy, compact guitar rock with sharp lyrical wit, a formula that has earned them a growing global fanbase. With a string of well-received EPs and their debut full-length album Lustre (released in July 2024), The Buoys have cemented their place as one of Australia’s most exciting rising acts.

Kicking off the night was Honey I’m Home, a Dutch-based project that delivered a mesmerizing set of hazy shoegaze, blending dreamy textures with a fresh, contemporary edge. Their lush, reverb-soaked sound filled the room, pulling the audience into a hypnotic sway before The Buoys cranked things up a notch. It was a perfect pairing—two distinct yet complementary energies that made for an incredibly dynamic night.
Before The Buoys even played a note, they had the crowd on their side. Striding onto the stage to the euphoric blast of "Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl" by Chappell Roan, they set the tone for what was to come—fun, fearless, and impossible not to dance to.
And from the moment they took the stage, The Buoys exuded an irresistible charm. Their chemistry was undeniable—Zoe’s dynamic presence, Hilary’s intricate guitar work, Courtney’s driving bass, and Tess’s sharp drumming combined into a force that felt both polished and full of raw energy. Even those unfamiliar with their songs found themselves swept up in the infectious melodies—every chorus felt like an anthem, and the crowd enthusiastically sang along.

The surprise of the night was when guitarist Hilary unexpectedly addressed the crowd in fluent German, earning delighted cheers and deepening the already buzzing connection with the audience. Adding to the fun, it was technically bassist Courtney's birthday—at least in Australia—prompting a spontaneous singalong.
The Buoys delivered a show that was as infectious as it was effortless, winning over a crowd that didn’t want the night to end—and neither did they. And as the house lights came up and the final cheers faded, the sense of satisfaction in the room was undeniable. The Buoys had not only closed out their tour on a high note but also left Berlin buzzing with the feeling that this won’t be a one-time visit. With a performance this good, they’ll surely be back—perhaps next time on an even bigger stage!
