Turn on, tune in, and buckle up—because this week’s "1 Band – 2 Photos – 3 Questions" dives headfirst into the swirling, sun-drenched soundscapes of Midlands-based psychedelic rockers The Crystal Teardrop. Fresh off the release of their debut album "Is Forming", the five-piece are proving that the spirit of the ‘60s is alive, well, and getting airborne onstage (sometimes literally). Think jangling guitars, and enough paisley energy to soundtrack your next road trip into the unknown. From cold November photo shoots to high-energy Birmingham gigs, they’re a band equally committed to style and substance. Let’s get into it.
Keep reading & listen to "Is Forming" if that is you:
We think our music is perfect for long summer days and nights. The album is a journey so definitely would sound great on a road trip with the top down(or windows!) and the album blasting out. Alternatively if you are looking to step "into the unknown" this could be a great soundtrack....
1 Band
We are The Crystal Teardrop, a 5 piece psychedelic rock band from the Midlands UK. We have just released our debut album 'Is Forming' which is available to listen to on Spotify or purchase from Bandcamp.

2 Photos

Our favourite press shot is this one from the photo shoot for our debut album front cover Taken by Sam Scott Hunter. We had a lot of fun in this shoot with multiple outfit changes on a cold November day. We loved working with Sam. Tricky part was getting our oil wheel to hit the right colours at the right time!

We're lucky to have had lots of great live shots but our current favourite is this one taken by 'Indie Images Photography' from our recent gig in Birmingham on May 10th 2025. We feel it captures our energetic live performances and the competition to see who can jump the highest!
3 Questions
HOW DO YOU APPROACH PHOTO SHOOTS AND DO YOU ENJOY THE PROCESS?
With everything we do we want to have fun. So although we take the session serious we also like to enjoy it. We do have a mood board of ideas(mainly influenced by 1960s band shots). In most cases we have a location in mind so it is planned but sometimes if we are at a gig and we see a cool location we ask someone to take a picture there and then.
WHAT CAN PHOTOGRAPHERS EXPECT WHEN THEY ACCOMPANY YOU BACKSTAGE AT A GIG OR ON TOUR?
We are very inclusive and want you to be part of the fun. We'll also try help you get the best shots as possible. Our tour vibe is also positive and we try to enjoy every minute even when its tough going. There's lots of hugging!
WHAT KIND OF PHOTO WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE TAKEN OF YOURSELF?
Probably on Sunset Strip or somewhere cool in L.A - maybe somewhere our heroes The Byrds, Love and Buffalo Springfield have had pictures taken. Alex will probably want to hire Dune Buggys and go down the beach Banana Splits style!
Hooked? Then check out The Crystal Teardrop's recommendations:
Listen to Scott Hepple and the Sun Band if you like something heavy music wise...they are ace! Oh and our friends in Osterberg Weekend!
We also like photographers Jack James from Birmingham and Andy Blakeley from Stoke who have taken some great live and press shots of us - as well as the aforementioned Sam Scott Hunter who took some amazing press studio shots.
