On May 14th, 2025, the British alt-rock outfit Wunderhorse ditched the amps and distortion pedals to play a stripped-down acoustic set at Rough Trade Berlin — feet on the floor, fans just inches away, crammed between record racks and merch stands. No stage, no barriers. Just music.

The band played exclusively from their newest album, giving fans a first-hear that felt more like a private gathering than a promo gig. Songs that on record have teeth and tension were laid bare in this acoustic light — slower, more vulnerable, but still pulsing with that quiet emotional gravity Wunderhorse does so well.

The place was packed wall-to-wall — the kind of packed where nobody moves unless they all move. A sea of heads pressed close, hands clutching drinks and phones, eyes locked forward. And yet, despite the lack of space and the rising heat, no one looked uncomfortable. It felt communal. Like everyone understood they were in the middle of something fleeting and special.

After the set, the band stayed for a signing — casual, unfussy, human. Jacob Slater met every fan like an old friend, scribbling signatures and exchanging hushed thanks. It felt like the natural extension of the performance: close, warm, unpretentious.

And while the night belonged to this quieter moment, there was a buzz beneath it all — a collective excitement for what’s next. Wunderhorse’s European tour kicks off May 31st, and you could feel the anticipation in the crowd. This was the calm before the storm, the warm-up before the real charge begins.
